ACA 2020 Fall Virtual Reading Program
ACA was proud to hold a virtual reading program for students in Kindergarten to 8th grade from October to November. The Fall 2020 ACA Reading Program lasted 8 weeks and was a part of our COVID-19 Relief Initiative: Parent-Child Care and Education Program. Every week, a new book was assigned covering one of the following topics: Asian American Pacific Islander Experience, Chinese Culture, Civic Engagement, Equity and Inclusion, and Diversity. Once completing the book, students joined a weekly Zoom meeting held on Sundays at 7 pm EST led by ACA Discussion Leaders to check-in as well as share what they read. The program’s goal is creating lifelong learners, engaging the participants in reading, refining public speaking skills, and making friendships and creating bonds. Our TVC members Dillan Lau, Shanshan Ye, Ingrid Huang, and Nicole Zhong were the assistant discussion leaders. Their role was to be a teacher and a role model for the participants. The four of them prepared and made the book list. They also held a meeting with the ACA organizer and gave their suggestions and ideas. They will also be helping in the second reading program starting on January 24, which will last 10 weeks.
